Hobo Kicks 02:22
Sleepin' in the park with my pack for a pillow Wake up on the ground beneath a weeping willow I take a shower in the civic centre fountain Singing Big Rock Candy Mountain You gotta get your hobo kicks Sometimes you don't need resources Other than resourcefulness I got no cash, no credit, no debit I got faith and I got the music You gotta get your hobo kicks Chorus: You gotta get your hobo kicks Gonna get my hobo kicks Let me tell you life is simple With fine dining at the Hindu temple A box of wine will do just fine To pass the time in the sunshine You gotta get your hobo kicks Living off people's change And riding on old freight trains My only home is the open road I just hope I never grow old You gotta get your hobo kicks Chorus

Redneck Town 03:42
What do you do in a redneck town? Take the bottle and drink it down We found ourselves in a crossroads city Where the grass is brown and the air is shitty Well what do you do when life gives you lemons? Gin and juice in redneck heaven Fill up a house with like-minded folks Spend all your nights smokin' dope Walk around in colourful caps Smile at all the ignorant chaps Go smash up the Starbucks sign Do it when you're drunk on wine That's just what you do in a redneck town What do you do in a redneck town? Take the bottle and drink it down We'll make some tea with poppy seeds And spend a week half asleep Drinking plonk and feeling down Wasted in this one horse town Planting seeds and hatching schemes Trying hard to make a scene Poppin' pills and feelin' fine Wasting all our precious time Who'd'a thunk we'd never get far Cougar hunting at the country bar Soon enough we'd have to leave Try our luck planting trees But I know we'll miss that redneck town What do you do in a redneck town? Take the bottle and drink it down

Wage Slave 03:09
I work at my stupid pizza job Throw cheese on the 'zza I get my paycheque every two weeks That I don't get to keep And I wake up day after day Just to waste my life away And I dream of a sunny place And I dream of a sunny day Chorus: I'm a wage slave... and I'm wasted I walk around this place in a dream I'm high on caffeine And when I get home I get stoned Ease my aching bones And this pounding in my head I'd rather be dead And I dream of a sunny place And I dream of a sunny day Chorus Yeah, my boss: he's a jerk He gets rich off my work But he's just a pawn in the game Whatever you do it's the same 'Til the day you hit the grave You're bound to be a wage slave I dream of a sunny place But sometimes it seems so far away

I ain't got no home I'm just a ramblin' 'round Just a wondering worker I roam from town to town The police make it hard wherever I may go And I ain't got no home in this world anymore My brothers and my sisters are all stranded on this road A hot, dusty road that a million feet have trod The rich man took our homes and drove us from our doors And I ain't got no home in this world anymore Was a farmin' on the shares and always I was poor My crops I laid to the banker's store My wife took down and died upon the cabin floor And I ain't got no home in this world anymore Now as I look around it's mighty plain to see This wide wicked world is a funny place to be The gamblin' man is rich but the working man is poor And I ain't got no home in this world anymore No I ain't got no home in this world anymore I'm just a wonderin' worker I roam from town to town The police make it hard wherever I may go And I ain't got no home in this world anymore

Bedframe 01:42
Chorus: Why'd you sell my bedframe for drugs? Why'd you sell my bedframe for drugs? Friends don't do that kind of stuff Why'd you sell my bedframe for drugs? Why'd you molotov my car? Why'd you molotov my car? I don't know who you think you are Why'd you molotov my car? Chorus Why'd you pawn off my videos? Why'd you pawn off my videos? I don't know what the heck's gotten into you Why'd you pawn off my videos? Chorus

I lived in a place called Ofuskee And I had a little girl in a holler tree I said my pretty baby it's plain to see That there ain't nobody that can sing like me No there ain't nobody that can sing like me She said it's hard for me to see How one little boy got so ugly I said my pretty baby well that may be But there ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me Chorus: Way over yonder in the minor keys Way over yonder in the minor keys Ain't nobody that can sing like me We walked down by the Buckeyed Creek To see the little froggy eat the google eyed bee To hear that west wind whistle to the east And there ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me Hey my little girly would you let me see Way down yonder where the wind blows free Nobody can see in our holler tree And there ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me Chorus Her mama cut a switch from a cherry tree And she laid it in to she and me And it stung way worse than a hive of bees But there ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me Now I have walked a long long way But I still look back on my Tanglewood days And I've led many a pretty girl to stray Saying ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me Chorus

Chorus: This goes out to all my four-legged friends This goes out to all my puppies, froggies and kittens This goes out to all my four-legged friends What would life be like without you? We've got froggies, they hop around They go swimming in the pond Catching bugs all along, and Living on a lily pad, not bad! Chorus We've got kitties, so cute and cuddly They snuggle up to you and sleep with you too Then go outside to catch a mouse or two Chorus We've got doggies, man's best friend They play tug of war with you And fetch with you too Then go outside to bark and poo, and Chorus Alright kids, this is where we need a little help... This is the sound that a horsey makes... This is the sound that a cow makes... This is the sound that a pig makes... This is the sound that a donkey makes... Chorus

Losin' It 03:44
I don't know why I waste my time frustrating my mind All these things like a bell that it rings in my head I'm losin' it, losing my mind... Humanity now lies between a super-nation at each pole Concentrating massive efforts on preparations of world war We're losin' it, we're losing our minds... I don't understand why there's so much pain and despair When there's so much love in the world to share Some people get rich while others stay so poor If there was fair distribution we would all have more We're losin' it, losing our minds... If any should ask why we died Tell them because our fathers lied I shall lie like this when I'm dead One more secret in my head I'm losin' it, losing my mind...

Cars hiss by my window like the waves upon the beach Cars hiss by my window like the waves upon the beach I got this girl beside me but she's out of reach Headlights through my window climbing on the wall Headlights through my window climbing on the wall Can't find my baby though I call and call Window's tremblin' like a sonic boom Window's tremblin' like a sonic boom A cold girl 'll kill you in a darkened room The cars hiss by my window like the waves upon the beach Cars hiss by my window like the waves down on the beach I got this girl beside me but she's out of reach

When I first started to hobo a freight train was my only friend (x2) This time when I go though, I'll have my baby by my side Won't you go tell my mother she won't have to worry no more Go tell my mother I'm coming home She won't have to cry no more And I ain't gonna hobo no more The road is so rough, the road is so rough When you're all on your own That's why I ain't gonna hobo no more No, I ain't gonna run around, I ain't gonna run I ain't gonna run around, I ain't gonna ramble Lord watch over me now, 'cause I ain't gonna hobo no more

First I was delivered then I was abandoned... Chorus: To be born is to die, it's to die to be born... I asked you this but you didn't answer me... Chorus Tell me: am I alone or am I not alone... Chorus

Wicked Polly 03:34
Young people who delight in sin I'll tell you what has lately been A woman who was young and fair Died in sin and deep despair She went to frolics, dance and play In spite of all her friends would say I'll turn to God when I grow old And then he shall receive my soul On Friday morning she took sick Her stubborn heart began to break She called her mother to her bed Her eyes were rolling in her head Oh mother mother fare ye well Your wicked Polly's doomed to hell The flaming wrath begins to roll I'm a lost and ruined soul She gnawed her tongue before she died She rolled, she groaned, she screamed, she cried Oh must I burn for ever more 'Til thousand thousand years or more? Young people lest this be your case Oh turn to God and trust his grace Down on your knees for mercies cry Lest you in sin like Polly die

about

In 2010 I got a fancy busking licence and played my heart out on the streets during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. I made just enough money to get a place and stop living the hobo musician life for a while. During and after my busking marathon I recorded a bunch of intimate living room recordings--just me, a guitar and a microphone. Then I put together a band with Joe McAnally on bass and Conrad Penner on drums and we rehearsed in the downtown east side of Vancouver. In time we recorded bed tracks at Gladgnome with Brandon Hoffman and through the first half of 2011 we added layers, such as the mandolin playing of Forrest Allen, who I'd met and jammed with on the streets during the Olympics.
The result is a mix of full band arrangements of some of my more road worn, street wise, original folk songs, the ones I'd throw into my busking set for fun, along with some darker stripped down acoustic arrangements of cover songs, material I'd normally save for quieter spaces.
