This is my reworked version of John Lee Hooker's 'The Road is So Rough'. I always envision it as a man talking on the phone to a friend back home before his final hobo journey.

When I first started to hobo a freight train was my only friend (x2)
This time when I go though, I'll have my baby by my side

Won't you go tell my mother she won't have to worry no more
Go tell my mother I'm coming home
She won't have to cry no more
And I ain't gonna hobo no more

The road is so rough, the road is so rough
When you're all on your own
That's why I ain't gonna hobo no more

No, I ain't gonna run around, I ain't gonna run
I ain't gonna run around, I ain't gonna ramble
Lord watch over me now,
'cause I ain't gonna hobo no more
